All the possible reasons to vaginal dryness

Statistically, 66% of women over 60 years old and 33% of the general female population suffer from vaginal dryness. Though It is a common physiological phenomenon, unfortunately, it is hardly discussed, and is poorly treated.

Which is precisely why our first order of business is to remove the veil of shame andguilt surrounding this subject, and simply let you know that you are not alone.

Actually, there are many factors that may cause vaginal dryness, the most significant of which being hormonal changes - namely a decrease in the level of the estrogen hormone.

The estrogen hormone keeps vaginal tissue elastic, and ensures good blood flow to the area. A decrease in estrogen causes decreased elasticity and vaginal dryness, which is manifested in the form of itching, tingling, general discomfort and pain during sexualintercourse. The hormonal changes cause a shift of vaginal pH level, which results in a higher infection and fungi incidence. The final outcome? an increase in pain and suffering.

You used to think it happens “only” after menopause? Think again…

Whydo we experiencehormonal changes?

The reasons for estrogen decrease change with age - it may stem from using birth control pills, breast-feeding, antidepressants consumption or other types of medicine.

There are other conditions that may cause vaginal dryness

Physiological conditions such as fungi (temporary), diabetes, breast/ovarian cancer treatment, uterus/ovarian surgery might cause this irritating dryness.

What about lifestyle habits?

Stress, smoking, poor dietary habits and an unhealthy lifestyle may contribute to vaginal dryness.

Menopause

Menopause often begins while your body still ovulates - it starts with a decrease of estrogen levels, along with a variety of symptoms such as weight gain, hot flashes and vaginal dryness.

Whatever the reason for vaginal dryness may be, the important thing is understanding that it doesn’t just “go away”. Vaginal dryness requires treatment, as does any other medical condition. Once you determinewhy it is thatyouexperience vaginal dryness, choosing the treatment becomes much easier.
